Operator Certification
In the early 1990's, CRWI initiated an operator certification
program to develop standards of operator knowledge, skill, and
proficiency that help assure safety and efficiency of the facility and
its operation. That program has been fully developed by the American
Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). The ASME program involves two
phases of training and testing. The first phase, Provisional
Certification, requires approximately 100 - 150 hours of training and
passing a standard written examination (given twice per year by ASME).
The second phase, Operator Certification, requires site-specific
training and passing an oral examination given by 3 ASME examiners at
the operator's site. Through July 2006, 73 operators have attained
Provisional Certification and 24 operators have obtained full
certification.
CRWI will continue to take an active role in the training and
certification of hazardous waste incinerator operators. It is the goal
of CRWI to help maintain a well-trained, dedicated, and environmentally
conscious and responsible workforce.
The QHO Provisional Certification Exam is offered in the
Spring and Fall. Application forms and additional information can be
obtained from ASME.
